Rather than me giving you my opinion on if home based businesses really work, let’s have a look at statistics from the US Small Business Administration and The US Census Bureau:
- According to a recent study by The SBA, the average home-based business earns about $65,000.
- According to The US Central Bureau, the average annual wage is $45,790.
So, on average, a home-based business earns revenues that outpace the average annual wage by $20,000. Remember some of those home based businesses are part time businesses. Their owners are making a wage at a “regular” job and making extra income from their home-based biz.
Now, let’s ask the people who have started an online business what they think about the question: “Do home-based businesses really work?” According to Home Office Computing Magazine:
- 98% said they were happier working from home
- 96% said they would recommend working from home
- 88% said they would never return to the corporate world
So, it seems that the vast majority of folks who start home-based businesses believe they made a very smart decision. There’s very little “regret” in those numbers.
Now, on to the next question: Can you make big money at home? Well, again, according to The US Census:
- 1.6 million home-based business owners made between $100,000 and $249,999 in 2010!
- Almost half a million home-based business owners made between $250,000 and $499,999!
That’s a lot of people making a lot of money working from home. These are the US Census numbers and these are just the average numbers.
There’s a lot of folks who start pretty crazy home-based businesses and fail miserably.
What if you started a home-business that answered all the questions you should ask and checked all the boxes? What if you started the perfect online business? How much better would your chances be than the “average” home based business?
