A friend, John told me this story the other day. He said his 17 year old daughter had never owned a laptop in her life. She has owned Ipods, Ipads and Iphones but never a laptop. This week, she started college and after her first day, she came up to John and said: “I want to spend my own money on a laptop.” John said: “Ok, cool, what are you going to get?” She said: “I want a Mac.” “Great. Mac’s are awesome but you know PCs are like 1/3 of the price.” Yes, I know, but every time I use a PC it’s like a foreign language. I have no idea what’s going on with Windows.
So, John’s daughter now owns a $900 Mac. John knows a “foreign language” called Windows. Who knows if John’s daughter is an indication, John might know a “Dead Language.”
So, what does this have to do with your online success? Well, statistics last year showed that 48% of Americans plan to start their own business. That’s getting very close to 50% which is a tipping point of sorts. More and more people are realising that the old 9 to 5, corporate cubicle job is becoming a “dead language.”
They look at mass lay-offs and corporate greed and bank failures and stock market crashes and global economic crises and say: “I don’t want that, I want something more secure, something I have control over.”
They want an operating system that makes sense. Is your job an operating system that makes no sense? Is it dead or dying?
